Marble products from Global Stone Imports
Since ancient times, marble has been valued for its beauty, strength and resistance
to the elements. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Persians used marble in their buildings
and statues. The first to use marble tiles, the Ancient Romans redid Rome in marble
to create the world's most beautiful city. Masterful artists such as Michelangelo
preferred the noble beauty of marble for their sculptures, as well. Marble is formed
from limestone exposed to thousands of years of heat and pressure in the earth's
crust. The forces cause the limestone's texture and composition to change in a process
called recrystallization. During recrystallization, limestone's mineral makeup is
altered, creating the wide variety of colors, veining and granular appearance that
give marble its unique appeal. The building blocks of Roman emperors, today marble
is used in diverse applications.
